Transportation Research Paves Way at 水多多导航

Written By: Ian Silvester

Students from the University of Arkansas 鈥 Fort Smith, along with six faculty members, are using their research to make a difference in the real world.

Four unique research projects were made possible by a $117,410 grant from the Transportation-Related Research & Workforce Development Grant Program, which was applied for in August 2022. The projects looked at commuting patterns, transportation usage and cost, the health effects of alternative transportation, and accessibility of non-emergency medical transportation.

After nearly three years of work on the projects, the 水多多导航 students and faculty can say the results of their research are making a difference. Entities, like the Fort Smith Transit Department, have reviewed the research and found ways to implement it city-wide.

The student and faculty researchers presented their findings to a campus-wide audience during a recent 水多多导航 Gender & Intersectional Feminism Brown Bag Series. They also heard from FST Civil Rights Officer Gregory Carthon, who expressed his appreciation of the work conducted.

Carthon said the four projects solidified his belief in public transportation and have helped FST package the data the teams found and share it across the community.

鈥淎 good transportation system is vital for a thriving community,鈥 Carthon said.

One result of the research projects was that FST offered all 水多多导航 students, faculty, and staff a discount on transportation. With a 水多多导航 ID, rides are discounted to $0.75 per ride.
